Quint City Poets meets every first Wednesday of the month, year round, 7-9 p.m.
at the Bettendorf Library,
2950 Learning Campus Drive, in Bettendorf. You can
read your own poetry, other poems you like, or
simply listen and enjoy. If you

If you are interested in forming a critique group for those interested in
writing for children and young adults,

The Writers' Studio
This group meets on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays at 11 a.m. at the Midwest
Writing Center. Please come to
the south door at 11 or after for
admittance. Work with award winning writers and published authors.
If you wish to read, please bring
a maximum of 5 pages double spaced. This is an informal free workshop.

The Young Writers Guild--All
young writers in the QCA interested in writing poetry, fiction, or
creative
non-fiction are invited to join. The group will focus
primarily on workshopping in a collaborative environment.
You
will get pointers on grammar, style, and content from a variety of
people, and you will get an interested
audience for your writing.
The process helps to make you a better reader and writer. There
will also be
writing exercises and games, public readings, an open
blog to post stories and poetry on, and potentially
publishing a

The group meets

Do It! Write: Writing Real & True
is the theme of the Fall Series of writing classes scheduled
at River Valley
Library in Port Byron, from 10a.m. to Noon on Wednesdays, Sept. 2 through Oct.

Joanne Wikund, journalist and poet of Port Byron, will lead
the course. Writing Real &
True will focus on narrative writing, along
with creative nonfiction and fiction as well. The discussion
will
center on how to define each of the
ways writers approach both family stories and
nonfiction.

River Readings at Augustana College
The River Readings at Augustana Announces
Third Season, 2009-10
Daniel Woodrell appears April 15; he is
the author of eight novels, most recently Winter’s
Bone (Little Brown, 2006).
Known for writing in the
vernacular of the Ozark region, his writing has been
described as “country noir.”
His novel Woe to Live On
(1987) was adapted into the 1999 movie Ride with the
Devil directed by Ang Lee.
Both Give Us a Kiss
and Winter’s Bone are in development as films.
All readings are on Thursday evenings at
7:00 in Wallenberg Hall (inside the Denkmann building,
(3520 7th
Ave., Rock Island). They are free
and open to the public. A reception follows the reading.
The River Readings at Augustana is
sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs, the
Institute for Leadership
and Service, the Thomas Tredway
Library, and the English Department at Augustana
College.
