Maiden of the Titanic
A 2007 Novel by Lilly Setterdahl with cover art by Cecilia Svensson
Setterdahl
“This intriguing novel is the result of a competition of
those participating in a novel-writing series of workshops at the Midwest
Writing Center in the fall of 2006.” (The Publisher)
Excerpt Chapter 1
“The bodies, clad in lifejackets,
bounced like corks on the calm but bone-chilling waters of the North
Atlantic. Roberto jumped overboard while the Titanic still floated. Hitting the
water felt like thousands of sharp needles penetrating his skin. Emerging at
the surface among chunks of ice and debris, he watched in horror as the
forward funnel came crashing down on deck. The ship tilted and passengers
hurled overboard.
Hearing countless pleas for help,
Roberto called out the name of his sweetheart, Lydia. Then he saw her, the
girl with the long blond hair, her head hanging down. It was Anna, the
maid.”
Back Cover
“The Italian lifeguard, Roberto,
rescues a comatose girl from the bone-chilling waters of the North Atlantic.
Who is she? Pauper or Heiress? A Swedish maid or her employer’s daughter?
“The author deals fictitiously with
the aftermath of the Titanic tragedy, and how it affected the lives of two
survivors.”
“Maiden of the Titanic humanizes an
epic tragedy with the personal story of Anna, whose true identity is closer
to the one the shipwreck assigns her than anyone realizes.” (Julie Jensen
McDonald)
“I enjoyed the feel of life in 1912,
the sense of a bygone era, the sweetness of romance—the backdrop of
historical facts.” (Sally John)
“Readers are sure to find this
page-turner hard to put down.” (Susan Collins)
